We were founded in the year 1925 in Washington, D.C. We, the Society of Catholic Medical Missionaries, are usually referred to as the Medical Mission Sisters (MMS). Founded by Anna Dengel, the Society’s headquarters were located in Washington D.C. until the late 1930s, when the sisters were invited to move to Philadelphia. This remains MMS’ North American headquarters today. Our international headquarters are based in London, U.K., where the Society Leadership Team comprises members from different countries.
Our charism is healing presence in the wounded world — especially among women, children, the marginalized, and all creation.
Providing holistic, high-quality care rooted in Christian love and service; engaging in community partnerships; and upholding honesty and integrity in all aspects of our work.
